Sabres Daily: Russia Thumbing Nose At IIHF; Comtois To Vegas?
The NHL and KHL do not have a transfer agreement, which up to this point has not caused a great amount of acrimony between the two respective leagues, but that may have come to an end after the situation between the Philadelphia Flyers and CSKA Moscow over goalie Ivan Fedotov. Fedotov signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers in 2022 but the 26-year-old was not allowed to leave Russia due to failure to fulfill military requirements. After doing so, he signed a deal with the KHL club and the International Ice Hockey Federation had to decide which contract was valid.
The IIHF decided that the Flyers held the legal contract and sanctioned CSKA Moscow, but they went ahead and played Fedotov in their season opener vs. Ak-Bars Kazan.
The IIHF’s official statement on the Russian Ice Hockey Federation’s, the KHL’s and CSKA Moscow’s violation of sanctions in the Ivan Fedotov case, the first time an IIHF member defiantly allows a sanctioned player to play a regular season game. https://t.co/pVXEXYZwbq https://t.co/Hgd2QwWd1E

Comtois Getting PTO?
One of the more intriguing unsigned free agents currently out there is former Anaheim Duck winger Maxime Comtois. The big forward was not qualified by Anaheim before free agency and there is a report that the 24-year-old will be signing a professional tryout contract with the Vegas Golden Knights.
