Stamkos is entering the final year of his eight-year, $68 million contract, and unlike core players, Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point, and Victor Hedman, who the club extended with one year left on their deals, GM Julien Brisebois is going down the same road with the 2008 top pick that he did with veterans Ondrej Palat and Alex Killorn.
