Former Buffalo Sabres first-rounder Mark Pysyk may have found a new home. The 31-year-old defenseman, who missed the entire 2022-23 season with a torn Achilles tendon, signed a professional tryout with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. Pysyk was selected 23rd overall in 2010 by the Sabres and played four seasons in Buffalo before being traded to Florida in 2016. After a season with Dallas, Pysyk returned to Buffalo in 2021 and played 68 games, but left as a free agent to sign with Detroit.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Wednesday that they have extended head coach Sheldon Keefe for two years. The 42-year-old Keefe is entering his fifth year as the Leafs head coach after replacing Mike Babcock in  November 2019 and has a 166-71-30 record. Keefe had a year left on his contract, so the extension will go through the 2025-26 season.
