Sabres Daily: PWHL Announced; Ontario Bans Ads With Athletes

The recently formed Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) announced on Tuesday that the league will be comprised of six teams: three in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa) and three in the United States (Boston, New York, and Minnesota). Per Hailey Salvian of the Athletic, the PWHL will have a 10-day free agent signing window opening on September 1, a 15-round draft, and the six PWHL club training camps that will open in mid-November.

The province of Ontario has banned the use of athletes and retired athletes in advertising for sports gambling sites effective at the end of February. Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, and Wayne Gretzky have been featured in commercials during games since online sports-betting gained prominence.
