Sabres Daily: Galchenyuk Signs In KHL; Leafs Add O’Brien

Former NHLer Alex Galchenyuk has found a home after having his contract terminated by the Arizona Coyotes. The 2012 third-overall pick signed a two-year deal with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. The 29-year-old split time between the AHL and NHL with Colorado last season and was signed to a 0ne-year veteran minimum deal in July, but the deal was vacated after Galchenyuk was arrested in Arizona, but last week according to Katie Strang of the Athletic, most of the charges were dismissed and Galchenyuk pled down to a misdemeanor charge.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been aggressive in upgrading their AHL affiliate with college players who could not come to an agreement with the teams that drafted them. Last week, the club added former Detroit second-rounder Robert Mastrosimone and on Thursday the club signed former Philadelphia first-round pick Jay O’Brien. Both players spent the majority of their NCAA career at Boston University and will play this season with the Toronto Marlies.
