Sabres Daily: 12 Teams In TV Limbo?; Suter Signs With Canucks
The National Hockey League may have a dilemma regarding the regional broadcast rights for 12 teams based on their current entanglement in the bankruptcy of Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports Regional Network.
Daniel Kaplan of Awful Announcing indicates that the NHL asked the bankruptcy court on Friday that if negotiations with DSG are not resolved in short order, they will request emergency relief to free their clubs from their contractual agreements with Bally’s so they can make their own arrangements for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Bally’s agreed to pay the remaining money that they owed for last season, but do not have any payment arrangement in place for next season. The lost revenue from the collapse of DSG could have an effect on the NHL’s salary cap for 2024-25 since it is based on hockey-related revenue.
