Sabres Daily: Hanifin The Next Domino To Fall?; Ostlund Watch
With the trade of Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh earlier this week, there is a good possibility that the trade roadblock of defensemen could free up before the start of training camp next month. The name most bandied about has been Calgary’s Noah Hanifin, who has a year left on his six-year deal with the Flames before qualifying for unrestricted free agency. The Sabres were among a number of clubs connected to Hanifin before the beginning of free agency and the signing of veterans Eric Johnson and Connor Clifton, but The Athletic’s Julian McKenzie believes that teams like Florida, Toronto, and Detroit could still have interest, even if it is as a one-year rental.

Buffalo Sabres 2022 first-rounder Noah Ostlund opted to return to the SHL and move from Djurgardens to Vaxjo this season instead of playing in Rochester this season. As with last season, the 19-year-old will likely play for Sweden at the 2024 IIHF World Juniors in Gothenberg this December and likely head to North America after his year in Sweden is completed.
Hockey friends in Sweden keeping me updated on Noah Ostlund. Last one on the ice today well after practiced ended for Vaxjo, working on some things.
This is a common occurrence for him from what I’ve been told. Good to see that work ethic. pic.twitter.com/YfAer1o6Xx
