Sabres Daily: Lemieux Signed By Carolina; Newhooked By Habs
It is always interesting to track players drafted years ago to see where they ended up, and on today’s transaction list, the name of former Buffalo Sabres second-round pick Brendan Lemieux popped up.

The 27-year-old signed a one-year, $800,000 deal with the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, marking the fifth club Lemieux will play with in his seven-year NHL career. Lemieux was selected with the first pick in the second round (31st overall) at the 2014 NHL Draft in Philadelphia, the same draft where the Sabres selected Sam Reinhart second overall.
Lemieux was part of the massive deal that brought Evander Kane from Winnipeg to Buffalo in 2015 and played his first two seasons with the Jets before being traded to New York in the Kevin Hayes deal in 2019. He played parts of three seasons with the Rangers, was traded to Los Angeles in 2021, swapped to Philadelphia at the deadline last March and now signs with the Hurricanes.

Newhooked By Habs
The Montreal Canadiens locked up center Alex Newhook on a four-year, $11.6 million deal ($2.9 million AAV) mere days after acquiring the Stanley Cup winner from the Colorado Avalanche. The 22-year-old was acquired at the 2023 Draft for prospect Gianni Fairbrother, and a 2023 first-and-second round pick after scoring 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 82 games for Colorado last season.
