The summer trade market may have begun to shake loose with the trade of forward Alex DeBrincat from the Ottawa Senators to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

The Sens moved the restricted free-agent sniper to the Wings for a conditional 2024 first-round pick, a 2024 fourth-round pick, forward Dominik Kubalik, and minor league defenseman Donovan Sebrango. Following the deal, DeBrincat agreed to a four-year, $31.5 million deal ($7.875 million AAV). The deal could have implications for the Buffalo Sabres in their pursuit of trading winger Victor Olofsson since the options for teams looking for a scorer are closed to the possibility of acquiring DeBrincat.
Olofsson scored a career-high 28 goals and has one year remaining at an AAV of $4.75 million.

In keeping track of the transactions of the Sabres Atlantic Division rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs finally snapped their 19-year playoff drought by eliminating Tampa Bay in the first round but ran into the Florida Panthers freight train.
