The Buffalo Sabres believe they were successful in stocking the shelves with promising prospects on Day 2 of the NHL Draft in Nashville, following the selection of winger Zach Benson on Wednesday. The club added a pair of players with size in the second round in Swedish forward Anton Wahlberg and Slovak defenseman Maxim Strbak, but the rest of Day 2 was highlighted by the selection of Clarence Center, NY native Gavin McCarthy.

McCarthy, a 6’2″, 185 lb. blueliner, was picked in the third round (86th overall) after scoring 27 points (8 goals, 19 assists) and compiling 88 penalty minutes with Muskegon of the USHL last season and is committed to play for Boston University in the fall.
