Sabres Daily: Peca Leaves For Rangers; Green Heading To Jersey

The Buffalo Sabres have lost their second assistant coach from their American Hockey League staff, as former team captain Michael Peca will join the staff of newly hired New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette.

The 49-year-old, who played for Vancouver, Buffalo, the NY Islanders, Edmonton, Toronto, and Columbus in his 14-year NHL career, was the Isles captain under Laviolette for two seasons and left the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in 2020 to be the development coach under him with the Washington Capitals. Peca joined the Sabres organization after one year with the Capitals, serving as an assistant to Seth Appert in Rochester for the last two seasons.   Former Sabre Mike Weber also departed Appert’s staff earlier this month to join Craig Berube’s staff with the St. Louis Blues.

Another move on the coaching carousel involves former Vancouver head coach Travis Green. Green was fired by the Canucks in 2021 and replaced by Bruce Boudreau after four-plus seasons and will join former Sabres bench boss Lindy Ruff’s staff as an assistant.
