Sabres Daily: Montour Starts Melee In Game 4; Ex-Files Update

Published

on

Former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Brandon Montour was a central part of the Florida Panthers late comeback in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final but also started an ugly post-game melee that is sure to draw files and possible suspensions from the NHL.

Montour got the Panthers on the scoreboard with a near-impossible double deflection off the legs of two Vegas Golden Knights defenders late in the second period and got Florida closer early in the third setting up Aleksander Barkov for his fifth goal of the postseason.

With Sergei Bobrovsky pulled, the Panthers nearly tied the game but were stymied by Vegas goalie Adin Hill, who sprawled on the ice to stop numerous attempts prior to time expiring. After the horn, Montour skated in from the point and slammed another former Sabre Brayden McNabb to the ice, which started a melee that resulted in Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk holding his stick around the neck and slashing at the legs of Alex Pietrangelo.
