Sabres Daily: Okposo Re-Signed To One-Year Deal

The Buffalo Sabres and team captain Kyle Okposo were on the same page at the end of last season, wanting to continue a relationship that started when the going back winger left the New York Islanders to sign a seven-year, $42 million free-agent deal in 2016.

The 35-year-old winger has had his ups and downs throughout his tenure with the Sabres, but found a new role as a veteran leader for a young and promising group over the last few years. On Wednesday, Okposo agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal to stay with Buffalo.

“I’m extremely proud to be a part of this group and to see how far we’ve come,” Okposo said in a press release. “We’ve become a team. It started off the ice first and then slowly progressed on the ice. It’s the first time in a long time that I think we can say that.”

The Sabres team captain had 28 points (11 goals,17 assists) in 75 games last season.

The cinderella Florida Panthers finished off the Carolina Hurricanes in a four-game sweep, as Matthew Tkachuk scored his third game-winner of the series with 4.9 seconds remaining in regulation in a 4-3 win in Sunrise, FL on Wednesday.

Former Sabre Sam Reinhart assisted on Tkachuk’s late power play marker and along with Brandon Montour will play in their first Stanley Cup Final.
