Sabres Daily: Tuch Nominated For King Clancy Award

Published

on

Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch received a pair of honors on Tuesday.

The Syracuse, NY native was selected to be an assistant captain for Team USA at the 2023 IIHF World Championships in Finland and Latvia later this month and was chosen by the Sabres as their nominee for the 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Nick Bonino was selected to be team captain, with Tuch and Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland as assistant captains. The 26-year-old winger was acquired by the Sabres in November 2021 as part of the Jack Eichel deal and posted a career-high 79 points (36 goals, 43 assists) in his second season with Buffalo.

Sabres captain Kyle Okposo is an unrestricted free agent this summer and there are rumors that both sides have an interest in a new deal for the 35-year-old. If that were to not happen, Tuch would be the logical choice as the next captain.
