Sabres Daily: Leafs Fall To Florida, Buffalo Longshot In NHL Lottery

Published

on

The Buffalo Sabres finished just one point behind the Florida Panthers in the wildcard race but the Panthers are a victory away from reaching the Eastern Conference Final after a 3-2 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday,

Former Sabre Sam Reinhart scored on a wraparound 3:02 into overtime to give the Panthers their sixth consecutive victory of the playoffs. Florida came back from a 3-1 deficit in the first round to upset the top-seeded Boston Bruins, and have taken the first three games against Toronto, who eliminated Tampa Bay in six games.

The Leafs are on the verge of elimination due mostly to their top players being stymied by Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and William Nylander all have been held without a goal. Toronto goalie Ilya Samsonov left the game in the second period after colliding with teammate Luke Schenn and was replaced by rookie Joseph Woll.
