Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch was named to Team USA’s roster for the 2023 IIHF World Championships in Finland and Latvia later this month.

The 26-year-old Syracuse, NY native tallied a career-high 79 points (36 goals, 43 assists) in his second season with Buffalo and will play alongside younger brother Luke (a Montreal Canadiens draft pick), former Sabre Anders Bjork, and former Buffalo draft choice Cal Petersen.

Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin played for Sweden at the Worlds last season but was non-committal as to whether he would participate in the tournament at locker cleanout last month.

Toronto In Trouble

In the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Toronto Maple Leafs squandered an early lead in Game 2 of their best-of-seven series with the Florida Panthers and lost 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday. First-period goals from Alex Kerfoot and former Sabre Ryan O’Reilly built a 2-0 lead for the Leafs, but goals from Gustav Forsling and Aleksander Barkov 47 seconds apart early in the middle frame put the Panthers in the lead for good. Sergei Bobrovsky made 35 saves in the victory, his fifth straight playoff win.

The Leafs trail 2-0 in the series as it heads to Florida for Game 3 on Sunday and Game 4 on Wednesday. Toronto has gone 1-4 at Scotiabank Arena this postseason but went undefeated in three road games against Tampa Bay.
