Shoresy Fall Classic Buffalo Sabres Alumni

What other night can you catch Jared Keeso scoring on Martin Biron, a Tim Connolly hat-trick, and a Jon Mirasty versus Zenon Konopka fight? The cast of the hit HULU show Shoresy was in Buffalo Wednesday night to play a rag-tag group of Sabres Alumni in an exhibition hockey game. The night did not disappoint, with everyone’s favorite Shoresy cast members and Sabres blasts from the past putting together an entertaining product.

If you’re unfamiliar with the show, Shoresy is a spinoff of the comedy TV series Letterkenny. It centers around the Letterkenny character Shoresy, portrayed by Jared Keeso. The Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs are Shoresy’s fictional hockey team portrayed by a mix of actors and former hockey players.

The cast hit the road on a touring event called the “Shoresy Fall Classic”, and Buffalo was added as a stop with the demand high. The touring cast playing in the event included:

  • Jared Keeso as “Shoresy”
  • Terry Ryan as “Hitch”
  • Jonathan Diaby as “Dolo”
  • Andrew Antsanen as “Goody”
  • Max Bouffard as “JJ Frankie JJ”
  • Jacob Smith as “Fish”
  • Jon Mirasty as “Jim #1”
  • Brandon Nolan as “Jim #2”
  • Jordan Nolan as “Jim #3”
  • Ryan McDonell as “Michaels”
  • Keegan Long as “Liam”
  • Bourke Cazabon as “Cory”
  • Frederick Roy as “Delaney”

As for the Sabres Alumni, they put together a team that spanned different generations:

  • Martin Biron
  • Eric Boulton
  • Tim Connolly
  • Brian Gionta
  • Cody Hodgson
  • Patrick Kaleta
  • Tim Kennedy
  • Zenon Konopka
  • Cody McCormick
  • Craig Muni
  • Andrew Peters
  • Rob Ray
  • Derek Roy
  • Darryl Shannon
  • Rick Vaive
  • Mike Wilson

Sabres & Shoresy Goal Scorers

The high-scoring affair included loose defense, plenty of skill, and goals from a wide array of players. The Sabres Alumni ended up winning the game, 13-11. Former Sabres enforcer Andrew Peters kicked off the scoring, and both teams took off from there. The other Sabres Alumni goal scorers included Boulton, Connolly (x3), Gionta, Kaleta, Kennedy, McCormick, Ray (x2), Roy, Shannon, and Vaive.

Keeso deemed himself the worst player on the ice “by far” to the crowd before the game, but was the first to score for the cast of Shoresy. In character, the Bulldogs also received goals from Cory, Delaney (x2), Fish, Hitch, Liam, Michaels (x2), Jim#2, and Jim #3.

Game Highlights

The game itself consisted of limited effort, low physicality, and lots of dangles and cross-ice passes. The highlight of the night was perhaps a save by Biron, who spun around and got the paddle out to rob JJ Frankie JJ.

In the little physicality we did have, it was from the usual suspect Zenon Konopka. Konopka took Delaney into the boards and caught him by surprise, resulting in the two grappling on the ice. In true character, Jim #1 (Jon Mirasty) challenged Konopka to a fight on the next shift. What started out as playful entertainment turned quickly into a little more than that, as Mirasty cut Konopka during the bout and drew a little blood.

Shoresy Entertainment

For local Buffalonians, seeing old familiar faces in blue and gold again was nostalgic dopamine. For those in tune with the show, the allure was seeing what the favorites from the Shoresy cast could do against former Sabres. Of course, Brandon and Jordan Nolan played in the NHL themselves, as did Terry Ryan. Jon Mirasty was a professional in the AHL and KHL. Dolo was an AHLer, and Frederick Roy played in the AHL for the Rochester Americans.

Jacob Smith and Ryan McDonell played well as non-professionals, with McDonell playing “up” despite his character, Michaels, being a goalie. Keeso’s goal received a huge cheer from the crowd as the title character gave everyone what they wanted.

The display on the videoboard was equally as entertaining, as the pre-recorded Shoresy skits, blunders, and outtakes kept the crowd laughing throughout the event. As is the tradition in the show, the “game stick”, an ice cream cone, was awarded to the player of the game. That player was Konopka, presumably for being the only player finishing with a blood-stained jersey.

Shoresy Fall Classic

The Shoresy Fall Classic continues with three other stops, including Boston, Massachusetts, Toronto, Ontario, and Rosemont, Illinois. The Boston and Toronto shows are already sold out, which comes as no surprise after witnessing the quality of the product.

The tour serves as the perfect cross between a nod to the day-one fans and a promotion of the upcoming fourth season of Shoresy. The hockey game was entertaining enough to fulfill the crowd’s wishes, and, combined with the incorporation of the show, the product delivered and exceeded its promises. To top it off, partial proceeds benefitted the Buffalo Sabres Scholarship Program.

In an exclusive interview, Buffalo Hockey Now discussed the event last week with Jordan Nolan.
