BHN Daily: NHL Reports and Rumors, Sharks Coach Update, Zamula Extension Talks
Yesterday was a strong content day at BHN, with the debut of the Daily, the continuation of our Sabres Grades, and an interesting dive into Buffalo’s interest in some of the top names potentially available around the league. I want to take the time in today’s Daily to discuss the difference between rumors, speculation, and reporting across the NHL.
If you missed it, check out the article posted about the Sabres’ potential interest in Mitch Marner, Jake Guentzel, Martin Necas, and Trevor Zegras. These are the biggest names being floated in hockey circles, to varying degrees of credibility.

In my position at BHN, reporting credible information I have is part of the job. There’s a time and a place for that, which is not now. At this time, I don’t have intricate knowledge of Guentzel’s intentions or what the Maple Leafs plan to do this offseason.
There are enough of the right people talking about it across the league to have the discussion. These are the kind of NHL “rumors” or “speculation” that I’ll give credence to. I won’t address your random Facebook post you saw about Morgan Frost or something ridiculous like that. If we discuss anything not officially reported, it’s because there’s a level of truth behind the notion.
Then there’s reporting, which comes from trusted local and national sources. There are a lot of self-proclaimed “insiders” out there, so we’ll stick to the ones with a proven track record. You’ll recognize these names as they come up, and they are credited appropriately.
Yesterday’s piece included two of the most trustworthy national reporters, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet and Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.
We’re in for a fun and eventful offseason, so I just wanted to clarify what constitutes NHL rumors or reporting going forward.
The Latest at Buffalo Hockey Now
Besides the big game hunting piece, we debuted the BHN Daily. This will be my chance to discuss things with you on a more personal level. It’s also your chance to see what’s being talked about across the rest of the network.
The Sabres Grades countdown continued with the newest addition, Bowen Byram. With nine players’ grades released, we’re getting into some of the more interesting players to discuss and where they weigh into the big picture.
I mentioned yesterday the debut of BHN+ is on its way, and today’s the day! Check back later today for the first exclusive content piece released on the site. Please consider signing up, as you unlock ad-free content across the board, access exclusive content, and get the latest updates straight to your email.
To make sure you’re getting something you can’t get elsewhere, we’re starting by taking you behind the scenes into my adjustment to becoming a Sabres beat reporter. I’ll take you in the room, and share my experiences.
