Sabres Daily: Leafs Hire Treliving; Dubas Heads To Pittsburgh

Published

on

Two of the Buffalo Sabres Eastern Conference foes completed their GM searches and announced their hires on Thursday before the media convenes in Las Vegas for the Stanley Cup Final.

Following the dismissal of Kyle Dubas, the Toronto Maple Leafs appeared to zero in on former Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving as their main target. Team President Brendan Shanahan reportedly spoke to other former GMs Marc Bergevin and ex-Sabres GM Jason Botterill, but in the end they stuck with their first choice in Treliving.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a lengthy search for a GM that included Sabres assistant GM Jason Karmanos, but their focus immediately changed after Dubas became available. The former Leafs GM was named President of Hockey Operations and will handle the general manager on an interim basis.
