Sabres Daily: Canada Wins At Worlds; Peterka Top Forward
Five Buffalo Sabres players were prominent on the final day of the 2023 IIHF World Championships in Tampere, Finland. Forwards Peyton Krebs and Jack Quinn played a big part in Canada’s 5-2 victory over Team Germany in the gold medal game. Krebs had primary assists on Sammy Blais first period goal and Lawson Crouse’s second-period tying goal, while Quinn was the setup man on Scott Laughton’s third-period insurance goal. Devon Levi served as the backup for starting goalie Samuel Montembeault.
Krebs finished the tournament with five points (1 goal, 4 assists), and Quinn had seven points (2 goals, 5 assists).

Sabres forward J-J Peterka was the driving force of Germany’s silver medal effort, finishing second in scoring behind Rocco Grimaldi of Team USA with 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists). The 21-year-old was named the tournament’s top forward.

The tournament had a disappointing end for Alex Tuch. The Americans went into the weekend unbeaten through the round-robin and quarter-final round, but 4-3 overtime losses to Germany on Saturday and Latvia saw them finish without a medal.
