Sabres Daily: Montour Madness, Worlds Day 7 Recap
The Buffalo Sabres are wondering where this Brandon Montour was during his 112-game stint in Western New York.

The 29-year-old was dealt at the 2021 trade deadline after an unspectacular two-year stint with the Sabres to the Florida Panthers for a third-round pick. After a solid 37-point campaign in which the Panthers won the President’s Trophy, Montour exploded this year under head coach Paul Maurice with 73 points (16 goals, 57 assists) and 107 penalty minutes.
Montour was dominant in the first-round upset of the Boston Bruins, with five goals in the series and a pair in Game 7 and is logging first-pairing ice time with defense partner Gustav Forsling.
In Florida’s 3-2 triple-overtime victory over Carolina on Thursday, the former Sabres blueliner led the Panthers in ice time with a baffling 57:56 and was on the ice for all three of their goals.
It is not out of the realm of possibility that Montour is the leading contender for the Conn Smythe Trophy if Florida wins the Stanley Cup.

Day #7 of the IIHF 2023 World Championships in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia on Wednesday saw only one of the five Buffalo Sabres players in action, as Canada and the United States were idle.
Germany’s JJ Peterka had a goal and an assist in their 6-4 victory over Denmark.
