Sabres Daily: Tempe Vote For Coyotes Arena Fails, Karmanos Candidate For Pens GM
In what has been interpreted as the last best hope of keeping the NHL in Arizona, the voters in Tempe on Tuesday voted down three propositions that would fund an arena to house the Coyotes after years of struggling to find a permanent in and around the city of Phoenix.

The referendum was voted down 56 to 44%, throwing the state of the league’s most troubled franchise into question. The NHL has stubbornly chosen to keep the Coyotes in Arizona to hopefully benefit from it being in a top-10 television market. It is now possible that Commissioner Gary Bettman will finally consider other options like moving them to Houston or Quebec City.

With Leafs GM Kyle Dubas taking himself out of the running, The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reports that current Sabres assistant GM Jason Karmanos was part of the first round of interviews for the Pittsburgh Penguins vacant GM job. LeBrun believes that former GM Jason Botterill (currently an assistant GM in Seattle) would be under consideration in an expanded search.
